Leon, patrikios, judge of the Velon and grand kourator of Eleutheriou, mid 11th century. Seal (Lead, 29 mm, 15.65 g, 12 h). Θ[KЄ] ROHΘЄI TⲰ CⲰ Δ,Λ, / MHP - ΘV The Mother of God, nimbate, both hands half-raised before her, palms outward. Rev. ΛЄONT, / ΠPI KPIT’ / T૪ RHΛ, S / K૪PAT,[P,] / TⲰN ЄΛ,/ΘЄP, in six lines, decorations above and flanking the last line. Unpublished in the standard references. An impressive and very well preserved Byzantine seal. Minor marks and corrosion, otherwise, extremely fine.

The 'Eleutherion' was the name of a crown domain likely located somewhere near the capital. A bureau of administrative officials (a 'sekreton') took care of its daily affairs, with a (grand) kourator in charge.
